THE ROLE OF SUFISM IN UNITY AND PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE

Abstract
Key Words: Islam, Sufism, unity, co-existence, religious tolerance
I adopt Sufism, by considering existing nomenclature in academia, but in mind Ulema. In the discussion on Sufism all over the world particularly Muslim world, they cite as withdrawal from mundane world. But most of the Sufis were involved in socio-political reform as they advised then rulers and supported them to maintain peace and security in their respect regions. Another significant observation is that their service to society is derived from religious duty. They believed service to people is obedience to the God. The religious tolerance and co-existence stem from this fundamental. They knew that Islam has never taught to divide the people in respect of faith and belief. Islam teaches to see all as one family and sons and daughters of Adam (A). These Sufis presented Islam as religion of tolerance and source of inner and outer peace. It is important to mention this perceptive while Islam is being questioned in the field of tolerance and co-existence.
