BARAK OBAMA AND IRAN

On 12 April 2010 current US President convened the nuclear security summit in Washington, a two days event to promote the disarmament and apposing terrorism and seek to line up international support for the US attempts to isolate and pressure the governments of Iran and North Korea. Instead of position of confrontation of Bush administration, Obama tries the trappings of multilateralism and global summitry, hosting the largest gathering of heads of state in US.

The aim of this summit was to create the conditions for sanctions against Iran, too threaten North Korea and sustain the US supremacy both in conventional and nuclear weapons and against potential challenges from more formidable powers, like China, Russia. By refusing to invite Iran, North Korea and Syria, Obama administration showed their double standard.

Very immediately as a counter attack Iran summoned another conference after one week of Washington conference. Iran sharply criticized the US on this issue. Khamenei the spiritual leader said about the double standard of US toward Israeli nuclear bombs.

Obama administration in their early steps, had promised the reorienting US strategic relations with Iran. But day by day his administration also resembles his former presidents’ policy, of isolating the Iran and continuing the accusation of old allegations. Through eloquent speeches he boasts the international and regional security but in practical he is on the same way of his former leaders. In his speech to the Turkish parliament on April 6 2009, Obama suggests Iran’s leaders “choose whether they will try to build a weapon or build a better future for their people.

Obama’s Cairo speech on 4 June 4 009 witnessed his real perception about Iran and nuclear energy:” this issue has been a source of tension between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. For many years, Iran has defied itself in part by its opposition to my country, and there is a tumultuous history between us. In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically-elected Iranian government. Since the Islamic revolution, Iran has played a role in acts of hostage -taking and violence against US troops and civilians……….but it is clear to all concerned that when it comes to nuclear weapons, we have reached a decisive point. This is not simply about America’s interests. It is about preventing a nuclear arms race in the Middle East that could lead this region and the world down a hugely dangerous path”

For the future of the US-Iran bilateral relation, Barak Obama should reexamine the current perception of Iran’s regional aims and redefine Iran’s place in US Middle east policy because Iran’s strategy in this context is more defensive and based on an interconnected security and concomitant domino effect: Iran’s security is equivalent to regional security and Iran’s insecurity will produce regional insecurity

Conclusion

Confrontation between Iran and US dated back to Islamic revolution in 1979. Since that crucial moment, US hegemony collapsed and started the diplomatic war between two powers. Three issues dominate in this confrontation; the nuclear issue, US-Iran bilateral relations, and outstanding regional disputes. In spite of the pax-americana all over the world , they could not put down the Iranian national defense .Iran is one of the most powerful countries of the West Asia and so careful In the matter of geopolitics and regional security .Any action that US is going to take, will affect the security and stability of West Asia.
